The Posse in the Community

One of the important roles of the Posse is to represent the Pima County Sheriff's Department in the community. The Posse participtes in several Parades each year including the Tucson Rodeo Parade, the Green Valley Parade, the Tombstone Parade as well as the El Paso Parade and others.

Another goal is to keep alive the Cowboy tradition of the Southwest and to educate the public about the joys and fascination of Southen Arizona's outdoors on foot and on horseback.

The Posse goes to schools, open houses, businesses and community groups to demonstrate the skills of the Search and Rescue Unit as well as to teach children and adults about hiking and equestrian safety. They have done demonstrations for Girl and Boy Scout troops, local area elementary and grade schools, saddle clubs, business and civic groups throughout Southern Arizona.

We also donate our time as security and/or traffic control for local area charity and equine related events such as the Clay Harper Southern Arizona Horse Expo, and the Equine Voices Fundraiser at Brandi Fenton Park. Posse members also assisted with a recent Heart of Tucson equine rescue.

The Pima County Sheriff's Posse

The Pima County Sheriff’s Posse is an all-volunteer mounted unit founded in 1946 under the auspices of the Sheriff of Pima County, Arizona.

The Posse assists other SARCI (Search and Rescue Council, Inc.) component member groups with search and rescue operations initiated by the Pima County Sheriff. Extensive training is provided to those members wishing to take part in search and rescue and the Posse unit is on call twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.

When requested, the Posse represents the Sheriff’s Department in parades and other community functions in Pima County and throughout the State of Arizona.

Currently all Search and Rescues are going directly through SARCI   However, The Pima County Sheriff's Posse Search and Rescue stands current, qualified and remains on standby for the Pima County Sheriff's
Dept. And its Community.

A monthly Gymkhana is conducted as a fundraiser for the Sheriff’s Posse Search & Rescue Unit and Park Patrols. This event is geared toward families, giving adults and children of all ages the opportunity to participate in horseback events and games.

The Posse also contributes its time and services to community projects, as well as trail riding events to help raise funds for charities.
